Daily Nugget: Equalization

One of the profoundly beautiful aspects of God’s design for marriage is the unification of heart, mind and body that a man and woman share once they unite in marriage. With this unity, all that they are and have is made equal – with what the man owns becoming equally his wife’s; and likewise what is the wife’s belongs to her husband. Of course the enemy has over time sowed seeds of selfishness in marriage to try and disrupt God’s equalization plan for marriage, which clearly deviates from God’s design.

Equalization is defined in the Cambridge dictionary as “the process of making things or people equal”. In God’s design for marriage, there is no need for feminist activism to bring equality – God has already provided for it, by bringing two distinct and uniquely different people to become one.

The principle of Equalization is not just a preserve of marriage, but also a key aspect and characteristic of God’s Kingdom and His Ekklesia Christ’s Bride or The Elect, or the “Called out” ones (AKA The Church). God’s principle design of the operations of His Kingdom is that there is oneness of heart and mind, which requires that all the members of the Kingdom operate as one body.

This picture of oneness and community is aptly captured in the lives of Christ’s disciples in the early church as recorded in the bible, in the book of Acts:

Acts 4:32 “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had” – NIV

The beauty of such a life that the disciples of Christ led as they advanced God’s Kingdom here on earth is reflected in the equalization of their wealth – a stark contrast to the harshly capitalistic world we presently live in, where every man (or woman) lives and strives for their own personal interest with little or no concern for the plight of his or her neighbour. So the rich become richer, as the poor become poorer. It is a society where indeed Every man lives for himself and God for us all.

If practiced in this world, the outcome of God’s Kingdom design – where there is more of selflessness instead of selfishness, is that there will ideally be no poor or needy person in the world as Equalization sets in. This is well depicted in the outcome of the lifestyle lived by the early church in Vs 33 – 35 “…And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.” – NIV
