Daily Nugget: All in The One Basket
Kobe looked at Claire in utter exasperation. “I’ve tried all I can, but nothing’s working!” he said slumping into the couch. “Why is it that the Joneses have it all figured out; they are rich and successful, but here we are… our poultry project has hit a snag with the death of all our chicken last night; our maize farm is destroyed with just a few weeks to harvest time, because of last week’s floods!. The merry-go-round group you signed up with is collapsing with members pulling out. My shares are worthless, with a lot of the Stock Market indices taking a huge dip after the economic recession over the last few months!”, he lamented.
Claire came and sat next to him with her arms around his shoulders, “It will be fine… “, she comforted him.
“Doesn’t look that way!” He retorted, “Where is your God in all this?!”. Claire looked at him with a pained expression on her face. Kobe is the one who actually led her into Christianity before they got married, and used to be a man of faith; so it was strange to her that he had of late put his faith aside and opted to try things out without God.
Kobe pushed her arm aside and stood up, pacing back and forth, “We followed the recommendations of our financial advisor to the letter!” he mused “Spread your risks and diversify your investments… Avoid putting all your eggs in one basket… There’s nothing we haven’t done, yet it’s all crumbling!”
“Kobe stop!” Claire demanded. “Instead of despairing and complaining, let us pray together about this. I believe God has an answer and a way out for us, if we only put our trust in Him”
Psalms 127:1-2 tells us that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” – NIV
Just like Claire is advising in the illustration above, will you choose today to put all your “eggs” in the one basket that truly matters? That one basket is – our unwavering Trust in God. David said of him in Psalms 37:25-26, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing” – NIV
Psalms 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” – NIV
