Daily Nugget: A Daily Miracle
The narrative that many married couples will normally give to explain how they met and fell in love will typically go something like this: “I was attending this or the other party, then I noticed this attractive girl… I asked her out… she initially refused… she eventually agreed… we went on this date, then another… she and I began looking forward to the next date… we developed a deep liking for each other… then we fell madly in love”.
The point of this illustration is that “Love” (and not infatuation or a “crush”) leading to a marriage decision does not happen instantly. It is a process made up of daily little thoughtful activities that fuel the love relationship… “A flower here… a card… a letter… a gift… some sweet words… and so on”. These series of frequent and consistent thoughtful activities are what leads a couple to reach a place in time where one gets to say “I love this person”. Unfortunately for many couples, once married, they forget these little “inputs” that keep the fire of love burning… and allow the marriage to become dull and dreary.
The same thing happens with our love relationship with God. It is not the one-time activity that happens weekly (like during Sunday Service), that solidifies our love for God. It is the DAILY deliberate activity of worshipping God and seeking him in prayer that results in the state of connectedness and deep Love for God. A miraculous transformation of our minds and hearts happens over time as we carry on this daily routine. This is what results in a deep devotion to God.
This is best illustrated by the daily provision of manna by God to his people the Israelites as they trudged through the harsh desert during their exodus from Egypt in Exodus 16:4 – Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day
The interesting thing about manna is that one couldn’t save today’s provision so as to consume it tomorrow, because it would be rotten by then. Every day required going out early in the morning before the sun came out to collect a fresh supply of manna for that day. Therefore yesterday’s act of love or devotion to God must be built upon with a fresh quest; a fresh effort to tap into God’s spiritual blessings for TODAY; to experience his grace, mercy and love in a fresh new way TODAY.
Yesterday’s gone, today there is need for a fresh dose of God’s Daily Miracle!
